Homemade Dry Skin Body Butter

If you have dry skin or suffer from dry skin during the winter months, you know how frustrating it can be to find something that really helps.  Everyone in our family seems to deal with dry and/or sensitive skin all or part of the year.  I have come across a few different recipes for homemade body butter, and dry skin creams and always wondered if they actually worked.  I found this recipe recently and while I used a bit less lotion than it called for I love the results.

After using this homemade cream for a few days I have seen a difference and will be making it again.  Not to mention that all of the ingredients were less than $10, and I was able to make a good supply for myself and enough for 3 eight ounce jars for gift giving as well.  The recipe filled 4 1/2 small mason jars (8 oz.)

Homemade Dry Skin Body Butter
Makes 4 1/2 Eight ounce containers

In a large mixing bowl I combined the following, using my hand mixer I blended it well and filled my clean containers.  I was a bit concerned the cream would stick to the bowl etc, but clean up was very easy.

  • 8 ounces of petroleum jelly with no fragrance
  • 8 ounces of Vitamin E Cream (a 2 jar pack-4 oz each can be found at WalMart-around $4)
  • 21-28 ounce bottle of body lotion of your choice.  I used a formula with oatmeal for sensitive skin
After you have combined your ingredients you can fill the airtight container(s) and you have a fabulous, thoughtful gift for friends and loved ones.  Most of us typically think of the women in our lives when we think of gifts like this, however if you use a fragrance-free lotion, this would also be great for guys and gals who garden, or whose hands get very dry.

Thank you so much for taking a moment to stop by today, hugs & blessings to you and your family!

xoxo, Tanya

Interesting! I'm learning more about making cosmetics and such on my own. One of my daughters has eczema and it's important for me to find good things to put on her skin.

I'd love if you shared this at my Show & Tell party this week. http://www.gingerlymade.com/2012/12/show-tell-6.html
